Westmorland Gazette, 20 September 1823:-
TO THE EDITOR OF THE CHRONICLE.
SIR,
I have observed with pleasure that for the last fortnight
you have not inserted, as much as the Editor of the Gazette
has done, [any] of the impudent intrusion on the papers
which the Surveyors of the County and their abettors, have
exhibited to their mutual disadvantage. It is high time for
them to give up a private quarrel which disgusts the
inhabitants of the County at large and their respective
friends in particular. Instead of their ridiculous
squabbles, it is high time for them to attend to their
proper business, or let their subscribers manifest their
disapprobation by withdrawing their names from the
subscription.
