Edward the Sixth, Queen Mary, and Queen Elizabeth, were benefactors to it; their respective grants amounting together to 19l. 5s. 4d. yearly, are payable out of the Crown revenues in Westmoreland. Mr. Richard Jackson (the Schoolmaster here, and removed to Appleby), gave 100l. to be applied to the benefit of the School-master. Dr. Airay was another benefactor. There are several exhibitions to Queen's College, Oxford, for scholars from this School." |
