The scheme was an amalgamation of three others: York and Carlisle Railway, Yorkshire
and Glasgow Union Railway, and Leeds and Carlisle Railway. It was committed to both
Stainmore and Wensleydale routes across the Pennines; was too ambitious, and failed.
Approved by Parliament 27.7.1846; expired 1849. |
||
Parts of the scheme, Durham to Tebay, and through Hawes to Clifton, are illustrated
on a map published by H G Collins in the British Gazetteer:- |
