Present external appearance now mainly Victorian, 2 storeys, with gables, quoins, and modern windows. South front has 5 gabled half-dormers. Bar and dining room have thick walls (probably original with splayed square windows (6-paned sashes), and old ceiling beams in interior. The original sign was painted by Julius Caesar Ibbetson RA, 1759-1817, from Yorkshire,
who lived in Troutbeck 1801-03. It had two mortal men on it: the one rosy and fat,
the other thin and miserable. |
