splashing. The sides of the dish necessarily shelter the
surface of the water from wind, rain, and sushine. The
following table shows the rainfall and evaporation for four
years at five feet elevation:-
The mean evaporation is 47 inches, a quantity vastly in
excess of the amount arrived at by Mr. Howard and Dr.
Miller, but I believe it to be more correct than either.
