Weeks Tour to the principal Lakes in Westmoreland
and Cumberland.
THE state of Europe preventing our author from making a
second visit to the Alps, he was led to turn his views to
the Apennines of his own country. Passing through Buxton, he
agrees, with Faujus de St. Fond, that it is, "a
cheerless, dreary tract, and, unlike other
mountainous countries, totally devoid of the picturesque."
