Notes about Penn's Prospect of the Ruins of the Castle of Pile of Fouldry, 1730s
These notes are about the watercolour painting, A Prospect of the Ruins of the Castle of Pile of Fouldry and the Adjacent Islands taken from Ramside, ie Piel Castle etc, Barrow-in-Furness, Lancashire, by Stephen Penn, 1730s. We are particularly grateful to have access to this copy because the painting is part of a series of very early outline views. The original item is in the Huntington Library and Art Gallery, California who hold the copyright.

The painting is one of a series of four. Each scene has numbered features in the picture with a list of identifications, making them the precursors of 'outline views'.
