Map, Descripsion of the Kingdoms of England, Scotland and
Ireland, etc, by Hans Woutneel, engraved by William Kip,
London, 1603.
The map is of particular interest because it marks battles
by a tent symbol, which 'explains' this symbol used on maps
by Blaeu and Blome.
The list of battles is lost; but, for example, the event
that is illustrated at Winchester is:-
During the FIRST BARONS WAR against King John. The rebel
Barons accept the support of Prince Louis of France, who
invades England, 4 May 1216, and marches to London. He is
proclaimed king but not crowned; John escapes to Winchester.
14 June 1216 Louis besieges and captures Winchester.
