Solid chamfered parapet. A broad County Council bridge on the Penrith-Appleby turnpike. Built by an Act of 1811 for continuing the main Turnpike road direct through to Penrith instead of round by Lowther Bridge, south of Eamond Bridge. Extensively repaired in 1899. See J F Curwen, The Later Records of North Westmorland, 1932, p 287. This bridge lies partly in Penrith CP." |
