Mining operations have been in progress at Askam for many years past, and large quantities of ore have been raised, but recent borings and trials have proved that there is yet in that locality vast masses of haematite ore, hitherto untouched, the extraction of which may give employment to a large number of workmen for very many years, possibly for generations to come, but some of the ore is at a great depth and will require a considerable expenditure of capital to reach it." |
