Started by Charles Henry Plevins and Edwin Lewis, 1857. It was reported in the press 1860:-
"... one solitary furnace in a half decayed condition built by some enterprising but unfortunate speculators, looked like a solitary hermit and some said, the last of its race ..."
The enterprise was taken over by Bains, Blair and Paterson, 1863, and flourished. By 1908 it was owned by Harrington Iron and Coal Co. Closed 1909; reopened during World War I; finally closed early 1920s
