Started by Charles Henry Plevins and Edwin Lewis, 1857. It was reported in the press
1860:- |

| "... one solitary furnace in a half decayed condition built by some enterprising but
unfortunate speculators, looked like a solitary hermit and some said, the last of
its race ..." |

| The enterprise was taken over by Bains, Blair and Paterson, 1863, and flourished.
By 1908 it was owned by Harrington Iron and Coal Co. Closed 1909; reopened during
World War I; finally closed early 1920s |
