source data:- | goto source Page 380:- "Walney bridge. - Signals. - Walney bridge connects Walney and Barrow islands about 2 cables southward of the northern end of Barrow island. The opening span, through which vessels may pass, is 120 feet (36m6) wide. On each side of the span, there are dolphins or jetties, 250 feet (76m2) long, for the safety of vessels." "The following signals are shown from the bridge:- A green ball by day, or a red light at night, shown on a pole at the corner of the entrance, denotes the bridge is not open for vessels to pass. A green light at night denotes that the bridge is open for vessels to pass." goto source Page 381:- "A vessel intending to pass through the bridge shall show at the foremost head, before rounding East Pile light or leaving Devonshire dock, between sunrise and sunset, the national ensign of the country to which she belongs, or, between sunset and sunrise, a red light; she shall also, if a steam vessel, sound her whistle or siren, or, if a sailing vessel, sound her foghorn or ring her bell, and continue to do so at short intervals while approaching the bridge." |
