A mounted horseman approaches it from the foreground, leading a second horse. Tall oak trees stand on the left hand bank, at the foot of a sloping field. In the middle distance the stream is crossed by a two span stone bridge beyond which lie a distant lake and fells, bathed in the glow of approaching sunset. There was a corn mill at Askham, but a view with a bridge behind does not have a lake behind that. ... item:- Tullie House Museum : 1978.108.180 Image © Tullie House Museum |
