At one time the rocks between which the Eden flows could be spanned by hand, BUT. William Kitching, vandal and stonemason, declared he would be the last man to span Eden, and broke several inches off the rocks where they almost touched.
"It was varra bad, varra bad on him, he sudn't hev done it. It was a girt cuer'osity, t' span t'Eden."
