Built by public subscription and munificently endowed by Matthew Pyper, of Whitehaven, Esquire. Later additions and alterations. Coursed, squared rubble, with quoins, on plinth. Graduated slate roof with projecting eaves; stone chimney to south end. Single, tall, storey; 12 bays Entrance in gabled porch to south gable end: Plank double door in elliptical-headed surround with impost band; semicircular- headed window in recessed surround to either side. Windows to east and west elevations all tall, with glazing bars; most segment-headed. All glazing C20 replacement." |
