Geological Outing of the Kendal and District Mine Research Society Log book page 77:- "DATE - 2/11/80. / MAP REF - 8240/1540 (NY81) / LOCATION - AUGILL VALLEY. / NAME - AUGILL. / TYPE OF SITE - MINE. / WORKING OR DISUSED - DISUSED. / PEOPLE IN PARTY [ ] / NOS. OF PHOTOS - 45. / SPECIMENS FOUND - GALENA, BARYTES & COPPER PYRITES. / COMMENTS - COLD DAY. BUT SHELTERED IN VALLEY. EXTENSIVE MINE ENTRANCES, A FEW OF WHICH WERE ENTERED, ONE LEVEL ENTERS INTO AN EXTENSIVE CAVERN OF WHICH MANY SHAFTS AND LEVELS LEAD OFF. AT THE TIME ONLY TWO MEMBERS ENTERED THE CAVERN AND A FURTHER VISIT MUST BE MADE WITH MORE PEOPLE &EQUIPMENT." Log book page 90:- "DATE - 24/5/81 / MAP REF - / LOCATION - / NAME - / TYPE OF SITE - / WORKING OR DISUSED - / PEOPLE IN PARTY [ ] / NOS. OF PHOTOS - / SPECIMENS FOUND - / COMMENTS - SEE 2/11/80 WARM SHOWERY DAY. ENTERED LEVEL WITH EXTENSIVE CAVERN AT END. INVESTIGATED POSSIBILITY OF DECENDING (sic) ALL THREE SHAFTS INSIDE BUT AFTER CLOSER INSPECTION FOUND THAT ONLY ONE WAS ENTERABLE, WITH SAFETY AFTER POPING UP WE DECENDED DOWN THE SMALLER OF THE THREE SHAFTS. A LEVEL LEADS OFF THE BOTTOM AND THIS WAS FOLLOWED BY CRAWLING, TO WHERE IT ENTERED INTO ONE OF THE OTHER SHAFTS.
