"Public house, formerly houses and stables. Probably early C19 with extensive alterations dated 5 Oct 1916 on inscribed stone set to left of entrance, by Harry Redfern for the Central Control Board. Red sandstone rubble, graduated green slate roof with coped gables: ashlar and rubble chimney stacks. 2 storeys, 3 bays to left has gabled roof; single storey, 6 bays to right. Double C20 panelled doors with glazed fanlight in flush quoined surround. Sash windows with glazing bars in plain stone surrounds. Wall to left of entrance has 3 blocked windows and probable entrance to one of the original houses. Interior of bar has inglenook with minstrel gallery above. This is all that remains of the interior design thought to be by Voysey, who was designer to the Central Control Board for their early pubs. Listing does not include shop fronts on High Street, formerly used as off-licence premises for the pub now in separate ownership."
