notes:- |
The church dates back to 1600, built as a school with a bequest from Cuthbert Buckle,
it was consecrated as a chapel in 1608. In 1699 a schoolroom was added at the NW corner;
the church was rebuilt in 1842-43; repairs were made in 1911. |
|
As a boy, Cuthbert has been to school in Brough. He walked to London to make his fortune,
successfully. He was Lord Mayor of London, and knighted 1593/94 by Elizabeth. |
