notes:-
There may have been a church here from about 875. The place, Kirkby - church place, is mentioned in Doomsday Book, 1086. The doorway is thought to date from about 1150. The building dates from the 12th century, presumably with alterations over the years. The tower fell down while the bells were being rung, 1657, it was rebuilt in 1829. There was restoration work in 1884; the tower was restored in 1903.
