Log book page 59:-  "DATE - 7/6/80 / MAP REF - 4960/1605 (NY41) / LOCATION - HAWESATER / NAME - HAWESWATER MINE ??? / TYPE OF SITE - MINE / WORKING OR DISUSED - DISUSED / PEOPLE IN PARTY - [ ] / NOS. OF PHOTOS - 35 / SPECIMENS FOUND - COPPER PYRITES, MALACHITE, BARYTES &HAEMATITE. / COMMENTS - THERE ARE TWO LEVELS ENTERING THIS MINE, ONE LOW AND ONE HIGH. BOTH THESE LEVELS ARE WALLED UP, SOME OF THE STONES WERE REMOVED (AND PUT BACK LATER) AND ONE COULD SEE VERY GOOD LEVELS BEYOND, THE HIGHER ONE IN WATER 2'-4' DEEP, APPROX, AND COPPER STAINING CAN BE SEEN IN THE HIGHER LEVEL. NEITHER LEVEL WAS ENTERED AT THIS TIME AS ONLY TWO PEOPLE WERE PRESENT, SO THIS MINE WILL BE INVESTIGATED AT A LATER DATE."

OF SLIDES - 37 / SPECIMENS FOUND - COPPER PYRITES, MALACHITE, IRON PYRITES &BARYTES / COMMENTS / WARM SHOWERY DAY / LOWER LEVEL IN WATER NO DEEPER THAN THE AVERAGE WELLIES, EXTENSIVE MALACHITE STAINING THROUGHOUT. THIS LOWER LEVEL ENDS IN A SHAFT WHICH IS IN WATER 30' DEEP OR MORE? THE TOP LEVEL IS IN DEEP WATER DEFINATELY (sic) OVER A WELLINGTON DEEP AS WE FOUND OUT (LEAD BOOTS AND ALL THAT). THIS LEVEL IS T SHAPED AND NEITHER GOES VERY FAR, THE RIGHT HAND LEVEL ENDS IN A WATER FALL. MALACHITE STAINS SOME OF THIS LEVEL ALSO."
