hearsay:- |
In December 1904 a wolf escaped from a private collection at Shotley Bridge. It roamed
the fells killing sheep, unsuccessfully hunted by local hunts. It was eventually cut
in half by a Midland Railway express train near Cumwhinton. The carcass was taken
to Carlisle, crudely stitched together for a postcard photograph by F W Tassel. The
wold was 56 inches long, and stood 30 inches high at the shoulder. |
