In a violent storm of thunder, lightning, and hail, this  
day, at Penrith, considerable damage was done by the  
lightning: a barn, containing 10 cart-loads of hay,  
belonging to Mr. Martindale of Gutter-lane; and a stack, the 
property of Sir F. T. Vane, of Hutton Hall, were both set on 
fire, and entirely consumed. A horse and five lambs were  
killed in a field near Penrith. Several of the hail-stones
