Eclipse map, The Passage of the Annular Penumbra over
Scotland etc, predicting the track of an annular eclipse of
the sun over Great Britain, 18 February 1737, scale about 41
miles to 1 inch, by Thomas Wright, Durham, published by John
Senex, London, 1737.
A shaded band, to show the passage of the shadow of the
moon, runs SW to NE across Ireland, northern England, and
southern Scotland, the centre line passing through
Edinburgh. An oval shadow of the moon is drawn at totality
over Edinburgh. Diagrams at 52 places, overlapped circles,
show the 'figure of the eclipse' ie how much of the sun is
covered, within and without the band of totality. Carlisle
has a total eclipse.
