ROTHAY BRIDGE, NEAR AMBLESIDE. This bridge which spans the Rothay, is half a mile from Ambleside, on the road to Hawkshead, and Whitehaven, over the mountains Hardknot and Wrynose: - and this view is made on the road from Kendal to Whitehaven, over the above mountains, and joins that from Ambleside at the foot of the bridge. The Rydal fells, (the mountains here are generally called fells) beginning with Nab Scar, and ending with Fairfield, close the scene. |
