Fine autumn day; Askham mill stands to right of composition
beside a shallow stream. A mounted horseman approaches it
from the foreground, leading a second horse. Tall oak trees
stand on the left hand bank, at the foot of a sloping field.
In the middle distance the stream is crossed by a two span
stone bridge beyond which lie a distant lake and fells,
bathed in the glow of approaching sunset.
There was a corn mill at Askham, but a view with a bridge
behind does not have a lake behind that. ...
