Print, Calder Abbey, St Bridget Beckermet, Cumberland,
drawn and engraved by by John Coney, 1815-29?
Summertime; view of Calder Abbey from close proximity,
deserted and overgrown.
It is possible that this work belongs to the series of
engravings of views of the cathedrals and abbey churches of
England which Coney was commissioned to execute by Harding.
They were to illustrate the new edition of Dugdale's
Monasticon Anglicanum edited by Sir Henry Ellis. The series
took him 14 years to complete.
