To left of foreground stand two tall pine trees beneath which is seated a man, his back to the viewer, wearing traditional Scottish dress. Beyond a small whitewashed cottage stands Gilnockie Tower beside a field in which a shepherd tends his sheep. Beyond rises a wooded hillside and barren moorland.
