Drawing, Fenton Embankment, Newcastle and Carlisle
Railway, Fenton, Hayton, Cumberland, by John Wilson
Carmichael, 1835.
Summertime; in centre foreground beside a long embankment
along which the tracks have been laid a group of
construction workers chisel at blocks of masonry, one of
which is numbered 24. To either side lies wooded countryside
with distant hills beyond.
Carmichael executed 22 pencil drawings of the construction
of the Newcastle and Carlisle Railway at the suggestion of
the Rail Company.
Using shadows and landform it is difficult to locate this
feature.
