Summertime; in centre foreground beside a long embankment along which the tracks have been laid a group of construction workers chisel at blocks of masonry, one of which is numbered 24. To either side lies wooded countryside with distant hills beyond.
Carmichael executed 22 pencil drawings of the construction of the Newcastle and Carlisle Railway at the suggestion of the Rail Company.
Using shadows and landform it is difficult to locate this feature.
