Drawing, South Aisle, Carlisle Cathedral; Interior
Looking East, Carlisle, Cumberland, by Edward H Buckler,
1860s.
Cathedral interior with a view down the vaulted south aisle
to left of composition; a figure wearing clerical robes
approaches a young woman standing there alone. To right of
composition stands the cathedral entrance, deserted, its
walls adorned with memorial tablets and a carved screen
filling the lower portion of an arch through which the ribs
and corbels of other arches are glimpsed.
