Halflength self portrait of Carrick as a young man, seated at a table, full face, his cheek resting on his hand, his gaze directed past the viewer. On the table beside him, the surface of which is daubed with paint, lies a palette. He wears a black jacket, brown waistcoat, white shirt and black stock. Plain blue background.
