Map, hand coloured engraving, A Plan of the Lancaster Canal, scale about 5 miles to 1 inch, perhaps published 1790s.
The map delineates an incomplete canal - Remarks, the parts executed and navigable are coloured red, and in an itinerary - Kendal to Tewitfield 14 miles unexecuted; Tewitfield to Lancaster 12 miles executed; Lancaster to Garstang 13 miles executed; Garstang to Preston 17 miles executed; Preston to Clayton Green 5 miles unexecuted; Clayton Green to Johnson's Hillock (the masonry in this length is nearly complete and part of the Cutting done) 3 miles unexecuted; Johnson's Hillock to Bark Hill near Wigan 10 miles executed; Bark Hill to West Houghton 4 miles unexecuted; from Aspul to Leigh 4 miles, act not obtained, where the canal could link to the Bridgewater Canal.
