Scawfell Pike is the highest mountain in England. The part of it above the 3,000 ft. contour was dedicated to the Nation by Lord Leconfield as a tribute to the Dalesmen who fought in the Great War. On the summit of Great Gable is the War Memorial of the Fell and Rock Climbing Club. The Club acquired this and the neighbouring summits and presented them to the National Trust.
