hearsay:- |
As Grange expanded in the late 19th century, a new main sewer was built along the
shore on the seaward side of the railway. The Promenade was built to hide the sewer;
it opened in 1902. |
|
A local benefactor, Colonel Porritt paid for its building, and for a tea room, and
for the creation of the gardens. At first the gardens were planned and maintained
by the urban district council. Since the 1990s they are looked after by volunteers. |
