There is an effigy of Black Tom of the North, painted black. Thomas was a son of Elizabeth Sandys and Christopher Curwen of Camerton.
He was involved in border raids in the 15th century, and piracy on the Irish Sea. He is credited with giving to the poor what he stole from the raids. He died somewhen after 1512.
Having been a pilgrim to Santiago de Compostella, Spain, he had a scallop shell on his coat of arms.
