Bypassing Carlisle on the east. From M6 junction 42, the south exit for Carlisle; through junction 43, central exit for Carlisle, connecting with the A69 to Brampton and eastwards; to junction 44, the north exit for Carlisle, connecting with the A7 to Longtown, and north rowards Edinburgh, and the A74 to Gretna and north towards Glasgow, Scotland. 7 miles, opened July 1971.
