Begun about 1873. by Derwent Hematite iron Co, and the first blast furnace started
un 1874. by 1882 there were three furnaces, eventually there were five. The works
were run by a succession of companies; Charles Cammell and Co, Cammell Laird and Co,
and the British Steel Corporation. The works produced steel using Bessemer converters,
as well as pig iron. Closed about 1936. |
