Page 150:-  "... the most fatal of all railway accidents, was that which occurred, not actually at Carlisle, but one mile north of Gretna, on May 22nd, 1915, when, owing to the forgetfulness of a signalman, three trains came into collision on the Caledonian Railway: a troop-train filled with 500 officers and men of the Royal Scots regiment. Of these, 157 were killed, and 280 injured."
