Northumbria was the most northerly kingdoms of the AngloSaxon Heptarchy, before the invasions of the Vikings, and the unification of England in the 10th century. It was formed from the kingdoms of Bernicia and Deira, and smaller units, by Ethelfrith, early 7th century. It ended in the Viking invasions, 860-70s.
