            The Solway was navigable for vessels up to about 60 tons burden to this port, which
                  had two jetties - the nearest to Carlisle in the 18th century. There was a bonded
                  warehouse here as well, which was demolished in 1953. |

                  flax, tar, rice, etc; exports were wheat, butter, and alabaster. |
