page 136:-  "In Langstrath Valley, Borrowdale, about half-a-mile south of Eagle Crag, there is an old quarry of considerable extent. The bed of the ash from which the slate has been obtained at this place is near the middle of the Volcanic Series, and it would seem that it is the only point, either in this or the adjoining beds, where cleavage has been sufficiently developed."
