It is situated a little to the west of the northern end of Bassenthwaite Lake, and although opened many years ago for building stone and road metal, used locally, it was not developed systematically until about three or four years ago. Now a Railway Siding has been provided, and some efficient machinery for breaking, crushing, and screening. The rock is especially suitable for breaking into setts, but the quarry is still in a state of development, and its full capacity has not yet been reached; therefore it would be unfair to give the present output for comparison with other quarries." |
