hearsay:-  
Perhaps 13th century. It is said to have marked a resting place for a corpse being taken to St Bees for interment; though ths is doubtful.
The cross is said to have been removed from the roadside 1911.
At one time it was described as being on the garden wall of Rheda Lodge, carefully supported and fenced; the lodge is not shown on the early County Series map.
