Perhaps 13th century. It is said to have marked a resting place for a corpse being
taken to St Bees for interment; though ths is doubtful. |

The cross is said to have been removed from the roadside 1911. |

At one time it was described as being on the garden wall of Rheda Lodge, carefully
supported and fenced; the lodge is not shown on the early County Series map. |
