hearsay:- |
When a railway engineer, Shapland, was staking out the centre line of the Settle and
Carlisle Railway, 1869-70, he stayed at an inn on Blea Moor. He got snowed in; the
snow came to 18 ins above the lintel of the door. The landlord had to burrow out to
get drinking water from a horse trough; luckily they had enough food. |
