The pebbles on the beach are varied. New red sandstone, ie St Bees sandstone; carboniferous
sandstone; granites; Borrowdale volcanic group; little coal, it is too soft to survive
- all from local rocks. Quartz from anywhere. Higher grade metamorphic rocks from
Scotland, brought down by the Irish Sea glacier. |
