A local guide book:-
|
|
"... we arrive at a very historic Boulder Stone, where "Mona, the faithless," was slain
by her lover. The boulder to this day, if water is splashed on its surface, still
shows the blood stains. This stone is in the bed of the stream to the right of the
little foot bridge."
|
|
"We have been told that a district which lacks a good ghost story or two does not possess
a keen attraction for visitors. We regret very much we cannot give a good one, and
yet at one time we boasted of quite a dozen fairly well conducted ghosts, but alas!
either the efforts of our local poets (no disrespect, gentlemen), or through the inauguration
of Parish Councils, &c. they have most successfully laid the lot. No, we believe threre
is one exception. As this road used to be most prolific in the production of ghosts
we selected it as our route this moonlight night, and also to call attention to the
fact that it is the ancient track of the main road ..."
|
|
"We cannot ascertain whether now Mona continues to sit on the boulder, but we believe,
from reliable information, she is a very well bahaved ghost and contents herself with
sitting and bemoaning her sad fate."
