source data:- | courtesy of English Heritage "Spring head, water trough and flanking walls. Late C18 or earlier. Shallow stone rectangular water trough, set just above ground level to accept the flow of the feeder spring. Flanking the trough for approx 2 metres on either side are low retaining walls approx 1.25 metres high in roughly-coursed sandstone. The trough served the horse drawn traffic on the colliery road to Baggrow, prior to the development of the railway, and also the grain route within the locality to and from the local mill." |
