"Byre carved into rock at base of Ashfell Edge. 1720 date on large shield to centre of rear wall with inscription:"

"Large central door opening c.6 ft square with rebates; hinge-pins survive. Chamber is c.10 ft deep x c.20 ft wide x c.8 ft high with segmental barrel 'vault' to ceiling. Described in 1894 Directory as being "sufficiently capacious to contain six cows". Buildings added externally now ruinous."
