"Hotel. Early C19, possibly incorporating part of early C18 Inn which stood on the site. Limestone rubble with dressed limestone plinth; graduated greenslate roof with blue glazed ridge, end chimneys and corniced gutters on paired square brackets. Curved in plan round corner. 3 storeys. 6 windows: sashes with glazing bars in painted surrounds. 6-panelled door in pilastered stone surround with entablature and cornice. Blocked door to right with pilastered stone surround with entablature and dentilled cornice. Outbuildings in rear yard not of interest."

hearsay:-  
Rebuilt after a fire, 1821, from a 16th century inn. The inn catered for about 20 stage coaches daily. This trade fell away after the railway arrived.
