notes:- |
Thomas Tomlinson, born here, died in America, 1802. He left money to support the teaching
of ten poor children in the parish. In 1838 the broad curiculum could be extended,
for 10/6 extra, to include navigation, astronomy and the use of maps. The old school
bell has gone to the new school. |
|
It customary for the master to be given a goose for Christmas, having been delivered,
with a ribbon round its neck, it would walk around the classroom for the rest of the
day. |
