This is/was on the boundary of Cleator and Brisco townships.

Called the Avellan Stane in a charter of 1210, along with another boundary marker,
the Stainbrennan, which is now lost. These are named after two individuals, Avenel
and Brendan, who probably lived in the 12th century.

(I don't know where this is, but I would investigate the 'boulder' marked on OS maps
at NY0352125, on Longbarrow Moss.)
